Split Files

Is it possible to split files between vendors working on the same project?

Let's imagine a project that needs at least 2 translators working on each file. In this scenario, the file needs to be split into 2 or 3 parts (they can either be equally divided or not). Only 1 translator will be responsible for each part. Is it necessary to split the documents locally and to upload each part to the project (uploading 3 files instead of only one), or is there an option to split a file that has already been uploaded to XTRF?

you need to use CAT tool for that. XTRF is more like a file/project management tool to control the variables.

Sure! As you said, we currently split files using CAT tools and then upload each part to the project. However, it would be good to know if there’s any integration with MemoQ that allows the project to receive/respect the CAT tool’s splitting (without the necessity to upload each file manually). It would be basically having MemoQ updating XTRF once any change is done on the MemoQ project.

Also, putting aside the file splitting itself, if we allocate more than one translator for each document, is there a way to tell the system the percentage (or how many characters) of the file each translator is working on? For example, translator A is working on 50% and translator B on the other 50% of the file (or working on 40000 characters)?

If this division is not possible, we’d have to allocate only one vendor per file (uploading multiple times the same file) to evaluate the translator properly.

Dear Danielle,

There is no officially supported way of splitting files, the way you have described is currently the closest to what you can achieve with out-of-the-box features.

What I can suggest is to contact your Key Account Manager to request customization which might solve this issue.
