How do you visualize nearing or missed deadlines in the Projects view?

Looking for best practices here. I know we can probably order a custom virtual column that would present the deadline and then have it colored in orange when the deadline is getting close and then turn red when the deadline is missed.
Curious to hear how all of you handle this.

Smart Projects does not have the out-of-the-box feature as Classic Projects to automatically mark nearing or missed deadlines in orange or red font. Virtual columns would be needed. However, the problem is that you cannot sort by virtual column data. Thus if you want to create a view that sorts your projects by deadline, using this color-formatted virtual column, you are out of luck. Therefore, our current "best practice" is to simply have a view that sorts all projects or jobs by deadline by default. Would be nice to have the Classic color feature though.
indeed, one of the great features from Classic that was discontinued. A pity...
