Docker deployment

We are considering changing the installation and deployment method of XTRF TMS for OnPremises customers. Given that current industry standard is Docker, that would be our target.

However, if we go that route, given our not-so-unlimited capacity, we would deprecate and remove the current Windows and Debian packaging after a few months from introducing Docker.

What do you think about such change?

We have a classic Debian/Ubuntu installation and not Docker, so a new installation would be needed. So a couple of months does not suit us.

It would be more suitable if for the current LTS version of XTRF you use the 'Debian package' up to EOL, but for the new major release (9.x) you can cancel the classic installation from the start and just have Docker.

Why do you want to move away from Debian packages in the first place?

Will this make managing easier or harder for customers? Are there any benefits to using Docker over packages?

Compatibility with wider range of operating systems

That depends on the general level of expertise with Docker among our customers. That's why I'm asking here, to know your opinion.

Unified deployment over wide range of hosts, faster installation and updates.

Hi Marcin,

is there any update on this? We look forward for the Docker image.

I'm afraid, based on the above marginal interest from our customers, that we are not actively working on this deployment method.
