We have been working on our own document templates which is going fine. However, the way we test them now is to upload them into XTRF and do a preview. This is quite tedious when we need to often test if something works. Is this really the only way to test the templates, or does anyone have a better way?

Good question. That's what we do. I'd love to know an easier way.
Hi,
Uploading the template to the XTRF and checking how it works might not be the only way, but it surely is the best one to make sure that everything will work as intended once deployed into production environment. Keep in mind that XTRF uses very particular implementation of BIRT rendering engine not to mention all the dependencies (libraries, data model or something as plain and simple as translations) that are running alongside the main module.
In the past, we were generating and deserializing example data and have been using it to test templates without the need to upload them to the XTRF instance but it wasn't very reliable solution at the time so we dropped it.
I wish you both a great day,

Thanks! I was afraid this would be the answer, but we'll just soldier on :-)
