MemoQ and Smart Projects

mark 4 years ago updated by Sancho Leath 4 years ago 5

We currently use Smart Projects and Memsource. Because of the lack of integration between the two systems, we're considering switching to MemoQ.

Could anyone share their experiences using the MemoQ - Smart Projects integration? What works, what doesn't, what are the limitations? Any suggestions on this?

Thanks all!

It would be easier if you ask what you are looking regarding the integration and then it's easier to give feedback. :)

You are right, it would be better for me to be more specific. However, since we haven't done this yet, I'm not 100% sure what to ask.

So, let me give it a go...

1. Uploading files to the MemoQ tool directly from XTRF

Does the file sync work as seamlessly as it shows in the video demo? That would be a huge time saver. Are there limitations on the files/types/sizes? Are there quirks in how it works or is it pretty straight forward?

2. Assigning the job in the MemoQ to linguists selected/assigned in XTRF

Using Memsource, we struggle to assign vendors in XTRF, and then trying to assign them in Memsource again. Again, is this as seamless as it shows?

3. Versioning. How concerning is it when there are updates to either software version? How frequently do the connections break when updates are made, and how challenging is it to address these issues?

This is my start of questions. I'm sure there will be more. Did that help?

Thanks!

+1

1. That works, of course. memsource does not support that?! Sync default value is every few min, you can manually trigger sync within the project.

2. If you stay with 1 linguist/1 file approach, it's pretty straight-forward. Should you decide to split 1 file between multiple vendors, you'll need to manually assign vendors in memoQ. If you split the file, file sync won't work anymore!

3. We are on 8.6 in memoQ and latest XTRF. Don't expect to be on the current version of both unless you like to be the beta tester for both companies :). 9.2 memoQ has been available for some time now but it's still not fully supported in XTRF. To be honest, memoQ upgrades are pretty much useless nowadays, so few new features that it does not really matter if you use an older version.

I suggest you self-host both systems. It's fairly easy to maintain/upgrade both systems and most importantly, you keep full control which version you are using.

Great. Thanks for the update. We're planning on transitioning to self-hosting to XTRF pretty soon. I never like transitions, but I think it's the right change for us.

Feel free to reach out to me personally. Quite complex to write down in a few lines.
